The creation of Tussar silk is a labour intensive process, starting from the hand collection of wild-hatched silkworm cocoons. The cocoons are then gently boiled to extract the natural sericin gum, softening the fibres. Cocoons are then seperated and handspun into fine thread. At this stage it is also spun with cotton to increase strength, durability and weight of the cloth. The resulting yarn is then handloomed, a beautiful irregular texture developing from the inconsistencies of the handspun yarn.

Tussar silk is naturally golden toned, this fabric has both undyed natural Tussar silk and AZO-free dyed black yarns.

100% of our CMT process was completed by Vanavil Association. Vanavil trained and developed the skills of the local tribal community. The process includes pattern cutting, assembling, and hand-finishing details; each stage carried out with a commitment to skill-building, empowerment, and environmental mindfulness.
Using solar-powered sewing machines and equipment, the team ensures each garment is finished with precision and care.

Each Hanten is accompanied by deckle-edge archival cotton rag papertags. Made from 100% recycled cotton off-cuts, the paper is acid-free, tree-free, and hand-lifted sheet by sheet before being pressed and sun-dried. Its soft texture, feathery edges, and natural variations reflect the slow craft of its making. Water used in production is drawn and treated onsite.

Tussar silk is naturally strong, crease-resistant, and retains its sheen, making it a durable fabric that ages gracefully. Its strength is reduced only when wet, so laundering requires care:
Wash seperately for the first few washes.
Cold gentle machine wash or handwash only with mild pH-netural detergent.
Do not soak.
Warm iron only.
Dry in shade.
This garment should not have prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or any bright light.
Expect some light gradual fading slowly over time, a natural process of gently dyed products.
