Ketya silk is a peace silk native to West Bengal, made from leftover fibres of Tussar silkmoth cocoons, harvested after the moths have hatched. The yarns are handspun and handwoven on traditional looms, creating a fabric with a distinctive slubbed texture and gentle irregularities that highlight its artisanal origin. Unlike the smoothness of filament silk, Ketya has a matte finish with a soft yet earthy handfeel.

Bronze Ketya remains undyed, carrying the natural golden-bronze hue of the Tussar silkmoth. The interweaving of leftover fibres introduces subtle variations in tone, giving the fabric its organic depth and richness.

100% of our CMT process was completed by Vanavil Association. Vanavil trained and developed the skills of the local tribal community. The process includes pattern cutting, assembling, and hand-finishing details; each stage carried out with a commitment to skill-building, empowerment, and environmental mindfulness.
Using solar-powered sewing machines and equipment, the team ensures each garment is finished with precision and care.

Each piece is accompanied by handmade papertags crafted from deckle-edge archival cotton rag paper by Sri Aurobindo Handmade Paper, Pondicherry. Made from 100% recycled cotton off-cuts, the paper is naturally acid-free and tree-free. Each sheet is hand lifted via mould and deckle, pressed, and dried using traditional techniques—its soft texture, feathery deckle borders, and slight variation in thickness or size embody the craftsmanship inherent in slow, mindful making. Water used in production is drawn onsite and treated for reuse.

Ketya silk fibres become more delicate when wet. Wash gently and this fabric will age gracefully:
Wash seperately for the first few washes.
Cold gentle machine wash or handwash only with mild pH-neutral detergent.
Do not soak.
Do not wring.
Warm iron only.
Dry flat in shade.
This garment should not have prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or any bright light.
