Unbaled Cotton
Unbaled Cotton is a traditional method being revived by the Malkha Trust, restoring pre-colonial Indian cotton practices. During British colonisation, cotton was baled; compressed for transport to mills in Britain; losing much of its natural strength, flexibility, and breathability.
Unbaled Cotton, in contrast, avoids this compression, preserving the fibers’ inherent qualities while maintaining a soft, airy texture. This labor-intensive approach honors centuries of artisanal knowledge and produces cotton that is stronger, more durable, and more breathable, allowing fabrics to retain both their natural performance and the subtle character imparted by hand processing.
