Tussar Silk

Tussar Silk is a naturally textured, handwoven silk produced in India from wild silkworms that feed on forest leaves, giving the fibre its characteristic irregular slubs, natural golden sheen, and soft drape. The Tussar Silk used in the Nüwa Mano collection is sourced from artisan weavers who preserve indigenous techniques, combining traditional hand-spinning with wooden handlooms that allow for natural texture and breathability.

The production process is entirely artisanal: silkworms are carefully harvested, the cocoons boiled, fibres spun by hand, and woven on handlooms. This creates a lightweight, breathable fabric with a distinctive tactile texture — each metre reflecting the rhythm and skill of the artisan. By avoiding industrial processing, the silk retains elasticity, insulation, and excellent dye absorption, ensuring garments hold their shape and colour over time.

At Nüwa Mano, we integrate this Tussar Silk into our collection to combine slow, sustainable production with modern design, ensuring each piece embodies authenticity, integrity, and artisan skill.
