Natural Dye

Natural dyeing is the process of colouring textiles using plant, mineral, or insect-based pigments, avoiding synthetic chemicals. At Nüwa Mano, we source dyes from locally grown plants, roots, barks, and seeds, including indigo, madder, turmeric, and pomegranate. Each batch of dye is prepared carefully, and fibres are mordanted to fix the colour, then slowly immersed in the pigment baths.

The process is entirely artisanal: temperature, timing, and hand-handling of the fibres are critical to achieve consistent, long-lasting colour. Variations in tone are natural and valued as a reflection of the handcrafting process. Natural dyeing supports rural artisan communities, preserves traditional knowledge, and reduces environmental impact compared to industrial textile dyeing.

At Nüwa Mano, using naturally dyed fabrics ensures every piece connects to heritage craft, sustainability, and mindful production, offering textiles that are visually rich, durable, and ethically made.
