Technique

Handspun

Handspun refers to the meticulous, time-honored craft in which raw fibers; cotton, silk, or wool; are drawn, twisted, and wound into yarn entirely by hand. The artisan carefully controls the tension, twist, and speed, responding to the fiber’s natural properties to create yarn that is strong, even, and flexible. Each movement of the hand leaves subtle variations, making every thread unique.

Techniques such as Khadi specifically refer to handspun yarns, reflecting centuries of traditional knowledge and the intimate connection between the artisan and the material. Handspun yarn carries the marks of its maker, turning each fabric into a living record of skill, patience, and artistry.

Nüwa Mano uses handspun fabrics for the natural variations, life and character they embue in each piece.
