Desi Fabrics

Desi fabrics refer to traditional handwoven textiles produced across India, crafted from natural fibres such as cotton, silk, wool, and sometimes bamboo or jute. The term “desi” reflects local, indigenous production techniques that predate industrial textile manufacturing. Each fabric embodies the knowledge, skill, and regional identity of the artisan communities that produce it.

These fabrics are made using hand-spinning, hand-loom weaving, and often natural dyeing techniques, which create textures, colours, and patterns unique to each region. Examples include Khadi, handloom cottons, Tussar silk, Ikat, and Jamdani, among others.

Desi fabrics are valued for their durability, breathability, and comfort, as well as the cultural and environmental integrity embedded in their production. By choosing desi fabrics, Nüwa Mano supports rural artisans, preserves traditional techniques, and integrates fabrics with history and purpose into contemporary design.
